Water, Water Everywhere, but for Many New Yorkers No Swimming or Safety

The disparity in swim access and safety in America's largest city is worsening due to a lifeguard shortage. A symposium on August 18 in Downtown Brooklyn will bring together officials and community leaders for a discussion on increasing safe swimming opportunities for all New Yorkers. Free Red Cross Certification Mints New Lifeguards

Due to a lifeguard shortage threatening Brooklyn kids' summer, Inclusive Community Wellness is working to increase local pool guards.
In mid-June, ICW offered a week-long, free Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR certification.

Aquatic Wellness in Fort Greene

From mid-November to mid-December last year, Inclusive Community Wellness (ICW) held vital health + wellness programs in Downtown Brooklyn. Every Tuesday and Thursday we hosted learn-to-swim sessions for children and adults from 7 – 9pm at the Long Island University Pool.
[Great things happening at LIU]
Kids aged 4 – 12 enjoyed a 45-minute session at 7 pm At 8 pm, our skilled instructors taught swimming to adults—a life-saving activity that ICW deems crucial for local families.

Our diverse wellness professionals work in collaboration with community members and local organizations to develop results-oriented programs—including exercise / fitness, nutrition, aquatics, leisure / recreation, health education, yoga and mental health enhancement—for children and their families, adults and seniors

NYers deserve the same opportunities to be healthy.

Our vision is to implement a comprehensive community fitness and wellness model that not only inspires positive and healthy lifestyle choices by every individual with whom we engage but also promotes the development and dissemination of life-altering content, programs and outcomes.

Are you good for good health?

Brooklyn Swims! Everyone in the pool!

From July 18 through August 19 2022, ICW offered free swim lessons—almost 700 during a four week stretch—to hundreds of children ages 4-13 at the LIU Brooklyn Pool.
[Yes, Brooklyn DOES Swim!]
Many families responded enthusiastically to our program and our list of prospective swimmers now exceeds 250. This demonstrates how critical this issue is for Brooklyn parents. Our goal is to continue this program beyond our summer initiative and offer three afterschool days a week with two swim sessions a day to provide exceptional swim instruction to 120 children a week.
